It is very important to have your gear fine tuned when casting flies to our strong saltwater species.
Strong reels to take the pressure of fast fish and long fights. Fast loading rods for the quick presentation and a but-section strong enough to lift a stubborn fish. Leaders must be tied with the best knots and will have to be changed often.
A FEW RECOMMENDABLE SET UPS:
- A weight class as heavy as you can cast 13, 14, 15 weight with a sinking shooting head, or a full length fly line with a sinking front.
- A 10 weight, with an intermediate shooting head, and a sinking shooting head. Again whole fly lines can be used.
- An 8 weight with a floating and sinking line. |
